A county director from the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture has urged the youth to avoid engaging in sex and drug abuse as the country celebrates Mashujaa Day.

Speaking from his office at the Nakuru county headquarters on Monday evening, Wachira Migwi urged the youth to involve themselves in activities that will be fruitful both at an individual level and the society.

He downplayed the misplaced myth that holidays are free time that should be specifically dedicated to fun and relaxing.

“In my view, such periods should be dedicated to helping parents at home, sick friends, neighbours and family members or the less fortunate in society rather than drinking and partying the whole day,” he said.

Migwi further urged parents to preoccupy their children with constructive activities to avert cases of youth misbehaving.

“Parents ought to embrace such days as family time because they can used this time to talk to their children, advise them and challenge them positively,” he advised.

Migwi further noted that the youth ought to make good use of public holidays to utilise their talents and work on their entrepreneurship skills which he says will be useful in the future.
