Youths from Mombasa County have been urged to shun leaders perpetuating hate speech and using them for violence.

Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba said some leaders were using youth to fight the government noting that the move was affecting tourism in the county.

He alleged that some politicians were taking advantage of the rising unemployment to engage young people in violence.

The MP said insecurity caused by al-Shabaab in the county was affecting tourism in Mombasa and the coast region which will have an impact on the county’s economy and job availability.

“Do not be misled that you will fight the government and win. The government has police, the army and weapons among other machinery,” said Bedzimba.

“Some people are asking you to invade police and military camps yet they themselves cannot do it.”

The MP said; “You will continue losing jobs if you mess up security. Tourists come to Mombasa and not other counties and you are chasing them away due to terror threats.”

He was speaking on Saturday during the opening of Bedzimba Primary School in his constituency.

He urged youth to engage in meaningful economic activities that will help them improve their living standards.
