Residents of Maseno have lauded the Kisumu County government for answering their prayers by repairing the Maseno Ekwanda road that has been impassable throughout the rainy period.

The road was repaired following continued protests from bodaboda operators, who expressed their outrage by planting banana stems on the road.

The road, which has now been carpeted with murrum, has seen normal activities resume following two months, which saw the locals seek alternative routes which were deemed longer and time consuming.

“It is really nice for our government to facilitate transport in this area. Our businesses have been grounded for long and with these repair things are now looking up,” said Stanley Mulei a bodaboda operator on the route.

“When we get response from the county government, we see the importance of bringing governance closer to the people. And we would like the county government to do the same in all sectors,” said Wycliffe Okwiri a resident of Ekwanda.

However, the residents have faulted the county government for not acting in good time.

“The county government knew that whenever it rains these road become impassable, and we had a long dry period, and we wonder why they failed to capitalise on that in order to repair the road,” said Phyllis Ochieng a local elder.
