A youth group from Kuresoi, Nakuru County has advised fellow young people to form groups and seek loans from the Youth Enterprise Fund (YEF).
Speaking during laying of the foundation at the site where they intend to erect six greenhouses using the loan from the fund, Jitegemee Youth Group chairman Harrisson Mwau said froming groups would help the youths initiate projects that will see them become self-reliant.
He said, “We decided to venture into farming to tap into the ever-growing market. We chose greenhouses because with food, you are assured of an always ready market. People must eat,” he said.
This was the second time the group had benefited from government grants after being awarded the Uwezo Fund in 2014.
“With the Uwezo Fund loan, we acquired five motorbikes that ply different routes within town,” Mwau said.
YEF and Uwezo Funds are government interest-free grant programmes given to youth and women groups with the aim of not only empowering them but also help ease the unemployment menace that has affected the whole country.
