Eighteen youths suspected to be part of a gang dubbed ‘Raia gang’ that has been terrorising Kikuyu residents have been arrested. Speaking from his office on Tuesday, the Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu said that they had arrested 18 youths who are suspected to be part of a gang that has been engaging in criminal acts in the area.
He said that the suspects were arrested at different areas in the region following tip off from area residents. The police boss explained that among the 18, three were minors who were reportedly introduced to the gang a few weeks ago. He said that youths should be careful with the people they associate with as they could influence them into crime.
Maweu said that the gang members have been luring young people, both male and female into joining the gang.
He said the 18 were under investigations and they would help to deliver information about the group. “We have arrested some of the gang members and this is not the end. We are still investigating this group and its financiers. However, I urge youths to avoid being lured into criminal activities,” said the OCPD. Mr Benson Njeu, a business owner in the area, said the gang had been terrorising residents in the area.
He however hailed the police for fighting crime in the area.
