18 suspects will be arraigned in court today, Monday over illegal power connections in Kisii, Nyamira, Homabay and Migori counties.
Nyanza South Kenya Power Manager David Mugambi said out of 18, 14 were arrested in Awendo and Kendu Bay while the rest, 4, were arrested in Kisii and Nyamira counties.
Mr Mugambi said the suspects arrested in Migori and Homabay will be charged at Rongo Law Courts while those from Kisii and Nyamira would answer charges at the Kisii Courts.
"We have so far arrested 18 people since we launched the crackdown dubbed 'ng'oa stima bandia' for Nyanza South region and they will be arraigned in court on Monday," said the regional manager.
Other areas where Mr Mugambi said the crackdown was carried include; Nyamataro, Ogembo, Kenyenya, Nyamira, Rongo and Oyugis.
Kisii County Kenya Power Manager Chris Omwenga said power outages in Kisii and environs were experiences due to illegal power connections that overwhelm transformers.
He said anybody found culpable will not be spared.
"I warn the cartels that are causing losses to the company that they will face full force of the law. They better abandon their illegal activities and instead engage in meaningful activities," he warned.
