Police in Thika town and the county government askaris on Friday evening conducted an impromptu operation to nab road unworthy vehicles within the town.

Over 27 vehicles without insurance stickers jammed Thika town transporting merchandise and passengers to different destinations within and out of Thika town.

The law enforcers mounted a road block on Gatitu Road which is an escape route for most traffic offenders getting to town and also serves as traffic jam escape.

"We are not relenting when it comes to traffic laws, even after sounding a strict warning to bodaboda operators today, we have trapped five of them and 27 of their vehicle counterparts without licenses and other road misconducts. We will be tireless to ensure smooth movement in our roads," Apelles Chacha, Thika traffic commandant said.

About 27 vehicles and 5 motorbikes were impounded and their drivers are set to appear in court on Monday, according to one traffic police officer who led the operation.

The police said they will be tracking the naughty drivers who slipped away during the operation, saying they have noted the registration numbers of the vehicles.

Since the boda boda operators launched a Sacco in Thika stadium and traffic police commandant sent a warning to reckless and ignorant drivers, police have embraced a tougher way of dealing with traffic offenders in Thika to sure smooth traffic flow.

"The nabbed 32 road offenders will remain in our cells over the weekend as they await to be arraigned in court on Monday," she added.
