A kiambu rights activist, Kariuki Kiruga has warned schools and churches against using children to generate money in fundraising activities saying that the trend amounts to abuse of minors.
“Why should a child aged 5 to 6 years be given a card or a form to help in fundraising?" asked Kariuki .
Kariuki says that the trend of minors who move from one place to another soliciting for money is on the rise.
“This culture must stop as it exposes the minor to abuse," he said.
He was speaking on Friday in Kiambu Town after confronting young girls appealing for contributions from passersby. Kariuki expressed concern over their safety.
“Sex predators will take this advantage and lure the minors into a bush pretending to give them money," said Kariuki .
He said that the Constitution protects the minors against any form of discrimination.
“The minors have been protected by the law from any form of discrimination. Children's rights should be safeguarded at all cost," added Kariuki.
He called on parents to take care of their children and give them ample time for studying.
