As the three-day long environmental conference drew its curtains on Thursday, women from Kisii County were challenged to take a bold step and initiate projects that can positively impact the society.
Addressing a gathering at Kisii University during the launch of an environmental project dabbed E-Waste Management Programme’s collection point, E-witu General Coordinator, Dr. Samuel Bokwe form Cameroon asserted that most women from African countries have been left out in most constructive initiatives mainly due to old and retrogressive mindsets.
Dr. Bokwe took issue with the way our countries have been administered, with mostly power-obsessed leaders, who in not one occasion have abused their mandates by not respecting the United Nations’ conventions of offering balanced as well as equal opportunities to both female and male genders like other parts of the world.
He further noted that it is high time African countries entrusted women for other duties, citing Liberian leader Ellen Sirleaf’s epitomised leadership skills.
“Our world can be a safe haven if only we gave our mothers, daughters chance to show their capacity on what they are able to deliver, thus giving our countries a new face, in terms of environmental growth hence sustainable economy,” the coordinator argued.
He however did not fail to recommend and appreciate the good work displayed by Vicky Onderi, who was the brain behind the E-Waste Management Initiative, saying that more women should follow suit on what Onderi was doing to not only her home county, but to the whole of Africa since the project is one of its kind in the African soil.
