All necessary measures have been put in place to ensure that tomorrow’s Mashujaa Day celebrations go as planned, the Uasin Gishu deputy county commissioner Christopher Wanjau has announced. Speaking in his Eldoret office yesterday, Wanjau added that they have compiled a list of the heroes in the area to be invited in the event. He has also assured that security will be tight in and around the 64 Stadium, Eldoret where the county celebrations will be held. “I would like to request the Wananchi to come out in numbers on Monday to join other Kenyans in the celebration of Mashujaa day. This is a public holiday where we are supposed to rest and reflect on our history as we celebrate our heroes,” said Wanjau. The deputy commissioner has indicted that the event will be packed with entertainment. “We have various groups that will be entertaining people throughout. The heroes will also be there especially from our county. It is also good to remember that the mashujaa are not only the historical figures but also include people who have played key roles in shaping the lives of others and our country’s destiny. Here we have the athletic champions who have really done our country proud in the international arena”, added Wanjau. Mashujaa Day was formerly Kenyatta Day. It was renamed to its current name following the promulgation of the new Constitution in 2010. This is the second Mashujaa day under the Jubilee government.
