Shaabab residents in Nakuru have expressed anger after the murder of a popular tout in the area.
Samuel Mwangi, popularly known as Kameme is said to have been murdered on Sunday. His colleagues claim that he was at Platinum Pub with a few of his friends where he was picked by unknown people on Saturday at around 4am.
“No one followed them because we suspected that they were police officers. His body was however discovered at the local municipal morgue with machete cuts on the head,” said a tout who sought anonymity.
Area MCA Daniel Kamau has condemned the killing.
“I know the boy personally and it is unfortunate he was murdered. He is a resident of Shaabab and used to work as an matatu conductor,” he said.
Area youth leader Steve Githuku has called for a speedy investigation into the murder.
“We are appealing to the government to ensure that touts are safe and can operate without fear or intimidation,” he added.
In Molo, police have launched a manhunt for a gang after a bodaboda operator was attacked by a group of unknown people.
Steven Wainaina, who was stabbed several times, is admitted at the Molo District Hospital. He says he was tricked by three passengers who said they were to be transported to the post office.
“Before we finished talking the gang descended on me and stabbed me twelve times with a knife. They also ran away with my motorbike. I was helped by good samaritans who took me to the hospital,” he said.
Wainaina claims that three other bodaboda operators have been killed in the last three months in Molo.
Area police boss Job Lesinkwa has confirmed the incident.
“We have already had talks with the heads of the motorbike association and we hope that we will be able to partner and work together to deal with the issue of insecurity,” he said.
