Kisumu County Speaker Elijah Omondi has directed the assembly to form a seven-member ad hoc committee to investigation the status of Sh250 million road project funded by World Bank at Awasi.

The speaker also directed that the committee table a report and present it to the house next week on Tuesday. In a motion tabled by Awasi/Onjiko MCA Fanuel Aim said that residents houses were burned down in area allocated for the Sh250 million road project.

The motion was seconded by Nominated MCA Lydia Odhiambo. "The county government had identified the necessary land for the project at Awasi but it is sad indeed that the contractor SBI international has been following on the release of the land for over a year in vain," said Aim.

He said that the county has two weeks to surrender the land for Sh250 million road project failure to which, the county will lose the project.

"My speaker it is time this house compelled the executive to hand over the said land to the contractor without any encumbrance," said Awasi/Onjiko MCA.

MCA Aim added that the former Nyando local authority allocated part of Awasi Market to some traders who have constructed temporary shops.

"Most of the traders have demolished their shops to pave way for the construction work, however, a few have completely refused to demolish their shops despite several notices provided," said MCA Aim.

Ahero MCA Maurice Aloo asked the county government to write a letter to the contractor to extend time for the project. Nominated MCA Caroline Ogot said that Awasi/Onjiko MCA Fanuel Aim should provide all the information about the burnt houses and status of the project be presented to the house.
