Soy town bodaboda operators have petitioned their Member of Parliament (MP) Edwin Barchilei to push for repair and renovation of roads which they say are in poor condition and have affected their business.
The bodaboda operators based at the Soy market and its environs lamented over poor state of roads, saying that most roads connecting the constituency to Eldoret Town and other areas are in poor state.
Franklin Kipng’eno, a boda boda rider said that the poor state of roads has seen business go down. He says that most roads within Soy market have potholes a situation which seen their bikes tear out easily.
“Our MP Mr Barchilei should push the county government so that our roads can be repaired,” he said.
The rider claimed that the county government has been reluctant to improve state of roads in the area.
Juma Moi, a tuk tuk operator said he has been forced out of business due to poor roads.
“I was forced to quit business because I used to spend more than what I got in the business to repair the tuk tuk,” he said.
Juma said that most operators are complaining of poor roads hence the need to repair them.
“The Uasin Gishu County government should look into the road problem and repair the roads immediately. The area will lag behind if road development is not fast-tracked," he said.
Area MP Edwin Barchilei in an earlier interview had promised to follow up with the matter.
He said he had presented the issues to the county government adding that he will follow up to make sure that roads and infrastructure development is fast-tracked in the constituency.
County Roads and Transport Executive Gideon Birir had earlier announced plans by the county to have all roads repaired and renovated by the end of this year.
Birir in an earlier interview said the county government had allocated adequate funds to roads repair in the current 2015-2016 Financial Year.
