University dons have been asked to be role models to their students as one way of enhancing the smooth learning in universities.

Speaking on Wednesday at Kisii University sports ground during the launch of the Cultural Week, Vice Chancellor Professor John Akama who was the chief guest said it is important for lecturers and professors to be role models and mentors to their students.

According to the Vice Chancellor, this will help the students and lecturers to develop and have a conducive environment for learning.

He also cautioned some lecturers who usually go to class and instead of guiding students; they leave them with assignments which they have even not been taught.

“Let us be role models to our students and let us socialise with them both academically and socially,” said Professor Akama

The VC added that by doing so it will help the students to know what they are supposed to do through proper guidance from their mentors.

“By mentoring these students through giving them adequate advice, they will become renowned Kenyans since the future of this country depends on them,” added Prof Akama

He also advised the youths and lecturers to know who they are and what they are supposed to do.
