A county representative has advised hoteliers, butchers and other meat sellers to maintain proper hygiene of the refurbished slaughterhouse in Biashara ward to avert spread of diseases as a result of eating bad meat.

Biashara Ward MCA Steve Kuria said cleanliness was key to dealing with such foods since a small mistake might compromise the lives of many people.

"Let’s ensure we adhere to the basic hygienic conditions because we are the ones controlling what many people consume on a daily basis," he said.

Kuria further called for the utilisation of the modern slaughterhouse saying its purpose is to serve residents.

"All illegal slaughter points should be closed down immediately so as we monitor everything from this main one," he said, adding that the county government has invested a lot of money into the project for the sake of its people.

The MCA called on the Health department to conduct thorough inspections that will ensure all butcheries, nyama choma and muturaa zones are compliant to all health operational requirements.

"This will help fight cholera and other diseases," Kuria said.

He spoke on Wednesday during the commissioning of the renovated Nakuru County Slaughter House in Biashara Ward that was officiated by Governor Kinuthia Mbugua.
