A political storm is brewing in the Orange Democratic Movement as influential politicians prepares their supporters ahead of July 28 and August 3 scheduled elections in both Kisii and Nyamira counties.
In Kisii, nominated Senator Janet Onge’ra has already thrown her hat into the ring for the Secretary General position, currently held by Kisii county Governor Hon. James Ongwae while the incumbent Nyamira chairman Hon. Timothy Bosire will get another stiff challenge from West Mugirango MP Hon. James Gesami.
Speaking on Thursday at her backyard in Bobasi, Ong’era termed the scheduled elections as ‘very important’ in her political career as she warms up for Kisii County Senatorial position in 2017.
“Elections will come and go but I have served previously at the national level and time has come for me to serve our supporters at the grassroots. This will be my time and no one will convince me contrary to my thoughts,” she said.
But the Nyamira race is expected to be titanic given that supporters of the two top candidates clashed in 2011 polls at the town center where Bosire was accused of rigging. Recently Bosire declared himself an ODM defacto in the region and dared his challengers to face him off.
“I am the reason why ODM enjoys support in Nyamira and partly countrywide and that is why nobody should even think of challenging me,” he told reporters recently at county headquarters during a Press conference.
Dr. Vincent Moracha of Kisii University has already predicted wins for Ongwae and Bosire camps due to their ‘unconditional relationship’ with party leader Hon. Raila Odinga.
