Lack of knowledge about the devolved system of governance by stakeholders has contributed to slow economic development and underperformance by county governments, an MCA has said.
Gesusu Ward MCA Samy Keronche says the situation has made some county governments take longer than necessary to lay the expected structures and strategies to run their governments smoothly.
"Blame the new structures and incompetence in the county governing system and also all other personnel who are responsible for the slow turnout of things at the county level," Keronche said.
Speaking on Wednesday morning at Geteri junction market, while addressing youths who turned up for a development forum the MCA also said that youth should form groups and register them with relevant authorities for them to access government.
A Nyaribari Masaba politician, Benard Moseti alias Menta who was in attendance challenged youth to have a positive mentality towards leardership and development.
"Let us not just say but show to the rest of the world that we have the ability to do all we can as youth to better our community and improve ourselves,’’ he said.
