Gituamba MCA Samuel Ng'ang'a has asked bodaboda riders to be extra careful on the roads to avoid accidents that have resulted to deaths and maiming of several youths in the area.

Speaking on Sunday at Gituamba Shopping Centre where he issued reflector jackets to bodaboda riders, Ng'ang'a said that observance of traffic rules was key to reducing the accidents.

"Dangerous riding and failure to observe traffic rules has seen many youths get crippled while the unfortunate ones have lost their lives. Let us follow the traffic rules and reduce occurance of accidents,” said Ng'ang'a.

Ng'ang'a also noted that the accidents were a result of ill-trained riders and advised the riders to go for relevant training.

The MCA said the bodaboda sector was key to the country's economy as well as providing jobs to many jobless youths.

Speaking at the same event, Gituamba bodaboda association secretary James Mukuhi asked the police to stop harassing the riders.

"We agree that some of us break traffic rules but the police sometimes harass innocent riders who observe traffic rules. This must stop,” he said.
