Led by former Councillor Suneka town Gwaro Makori and Bonchari politician Charles Mogaka, the residents described the attack as cowardly.

Speaking on Thursday at a Kisii hospital where the administrator was admitted, the two leaders said the attack is a clear demonstration of insecurity in the area.

"As residents from Bonchari, we condemn this retrogressive act and call on the government to speed up investigations and have all those behind the attack brought to book," said Mr Makori.

Mr Makori expressed fear that such acts if not controlled will lead to impunity and lawlessness in the area and threaten peace and security of the locals.

Mr Mogaka said the attack was shameful and called on the government to conduct comprehensive investigations and unearth the motive of the assailants.

The victim revealed that he sustained serious chest injuries from the attack, which he said took place at 10pm when he was heading home after a night security patrol within Suneka town.

"I was attacked by thugs, armed with crude weapons at 10pm as I was heading home in the company of a motorbike rider. I sustained serious chest injuries. I have undergone a C-T scan and I am waiting for the results," Mr Ongabi said.
