Residents of Borabu constituency in Nyamira County now have a reason to smile after a free medical check-up exercise was launched by an aspiring Member of Parliament.

The exercise is expected to run for one month and will cover Nyansiongo Township ward, Mekenene and Esise with the neighbouring Gesima ward also being a beneficiary.

Speaking on Sunday during the launching of the exercise, Dr Nyandoro Kambi urged the residents to turn out in large numbers for the check-up on eye, ear, blood pressure and other medical complications.

“Sometimes our people cannot be able to get the check-ups because of poverty. Medical check-ups help us to tackle diseases by being preventive in nature. It is therefore an opportunity for all of us to come for such tests. It is worthwhile and those who will be found with complications will definitely be treated,” he said.

He urged the county government of Nyamira to partner with his foundation (Dr Kambi Foundation) to promote matters health by reaching residents at grassroots levels.

“I am of the opinion that the county government partners with my foundation to promote health services delivery at the grassroots. Most residents are unable to get quality health services and are therefore vulnerable to diseases that can be controlled," he said.

“I am ready to work with the county government to reach other regions. We cannot possibly watch our people dying of diseases that can be prevented. They realise when it is too late,” he said.

The program has attracted medics from South Africa and United Kingdom who will be working with local experts allied to the foundation.
