Residents of Bosamaro Ward in Nyamira south Sub county and Gusii as a whole have been urged to prioritise the girl child education, in order to attain a balanced community.

Addressing a women investment group in Ting’a early Monday morning, Prof Irene Michieka, a senior lecture at JKUAT, said there was need to ensure that all girls in the community get quality education so that they can change the society.

“Cases of Gender Based Violence targeting our young girls and women are on the increase in our county, and this needs to be checked because such practices may make our girls drop out of school,” she said.

Michieka further noted that all members of the community must ensure moral standings in the society are restored, and that only education will enable the girl-child face the modern day challenges.

"This interaction of the elderly women, successful women in the society and our girls will enable each category to share their experiences and ensure our future generations are safeguarded,” she added.

She also called upon all parents to ensure no girl undergoes Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), for it was a primitive way of passage, further urging all leaders from the community to stand against the act.
