Kitutu Masaba MP has denied claims that he was planning to contest for gubernatorial seat in Nyamira County following claims by a top candidate for the seat in 2017.
Mr Victor Swanya made the claims in Gesima market on Wednesday when he urged residents to elect him as the next MP and Mr Timothy Bosire as the next governor.
But the MP's personal assistant Mr Justus Omiti denied the claims that his boss was intending to run for gubernatorial seat and dismissed them as ‘cheap propaganda’ by Mr Bosire's opponents to gain political mileage.
“The MP is comfortable with his current position and has not lost interest in serving the Kitutu Masaba residents. Those are cheap propaganda spearheaded by people looking to gain political mileage. They should face the MP in polls rather than coming up with such claims,” he said at Gekano Secondary School when he visited form four candidates on Thursday.
Mr Omiti said the MP was however keen to see changes in the county leadership in the next polls by voting an ‘effective and decisive’ governor.
“He (Bosire) has never hid his desire to see a better Nyamira with an effective and decisive governor. He has been in the front line critiquing governor John Nyagarama’s leadership,” he said.
According to the MP's longtime aide, Mr Bosire was overwhelmed by national duties in the August House and his sponsor Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, hence ruling out the possibilities of going for the county job.
“Our MP is the ODM National Treasurer and is always busy with the party activities nationwide but more importantly, he loves his constituency and is likely to continue representing us in Parliament,” he said.
