Nakuru County Commissioner Mohammed Birik has warned illicit brewers against hiding brews in grave yards and cemeteries saying they will be hunted down and action taken against them.

Speaking to journalists in his office on Monday, Birirk said that some brewers were using grave yards as brewing dens and selling points.

He said that his office has received information about brewers who hide in grave yards to evade being arrested in the ongoing crackdown.

“It is wrong for some people to use grave yards as brewing dens and selling points. Law enforcers have been deployed to arrest the people who are enganging in the vice,” said Birik.

The Nakuru Commissioner said that the dead deserve respect and that the action by some brewers to invade grave yards is a serious matter.

Birirk said that the fight against illicit brew in the county will go on noting that police are aware of the dubious methods being used by some illicit brewers to make and sale the illegal drinks.

He directed chiefs to continue hunting down brewers and sellers of illegal brew and destroy the dens.

Birirk at the same time warned rogue bar operators and brewers who are threatening chiefs.

He said that cases of chiefs and police being threatened have been reported and that perpetrators of such acts will be arrested and charged in court.

The Nakuru Commissioner said that his officers will continue to mount raids on people they suspect are still brewing illegal alcohol.
