Land brokers are contributing to land disputes involving various families and buyers in Kisii County.
Kisii County Probation Director, Oribo Kinyosi has blamed brokers for conspiring with buyers to have land re-sold and registered under the names of more than two buyers. Conflict arises when it comes to determining the rightful owners of the land in question.
Speaking in his office, Kinyosi linked majority of the land disputes involving cases of double registration reported in Kisii to brokers. This results in conflicts over ownership because in most cases all the claimants of ownership have land title deeds certified by the Commissioner of Land.
"I am not ashamed to blame double land registration and ownership to cartels and brokers who have infiltrated the Kisii Land Registry corridors, leading to conflicts between families and buyers who in most cases are more than one and each issued with a genuine land title deed," stated Kinyosi
Kinyosi lamented that this was worrying since the trend leads to confusion on land ownership as all those claiming ownership to a particular land, all have valid registration documents to that effect.
He challenged the office of the Kisii Land Registrar to ensure issuance of land title deeds is independently done by the Registrar alone upon approval of the real ownership for a particular parcel of land.
"To address land disputes and conflicts related to double land registration, there should be proper systems and succession procedures, to ensure it is only the Registrar of land who deals with registration and issuance of title deeds upon approval that the land in question has no dispute over its registration and succession," stated Kinyosi.
