Ahadi Kenya Trust chief executive officer Dr. Stanley Kamau on Saturday challenged county governments to allocate funds in their budgets to eradicate jigger menace in the country.
Dr. Kamau said jiggers is stifling development of Kenyans and need to be eradicated once and forever, adding that since health is a devolved function, county governments should allocate enough resources in their financial budgets towards fighting the jigger menace.
He said that for total eradication of jiggers, there is need for a concerted effort from both the national and county governments together with private sectors.
“We must come combine efforts and ensure that we pull resources together to defeat this jigger menace,” said Dr. Kamau.
He said that he has traversed the entire country trying to help in the fight against jiggers, but only a few counties have set aside resources in the fight.
Speaking to Journalists in Kisumu on Saturday after conducting a drive to eradicate jiggers in Western Kenya, Dr. Kamau said that several children risk discontinuing with their education due to the menace.
Dr. Kamau, however, lauded the national government for putting in place a policy to eradicate the menace and called upon counties to borrow and implement such policies.
“The national government has a good policy on jiggers and I want to challenge our county governments to use that policy to help our people,” advised Dr. Kamau.
