A businessman from Borabu constituency has been urged to fence a water dam that serves his farming business in the region due to the danger it pauses to Mwongori residents.

On Wednesday, a group of residents raised the concern with area chief Mr David Ogega and urged him to persuade businessman Charles Obiri to consider fencing his dam following a series of accidents that has seen three people survive drowning due to poor visibility this rainy season.

Mr Ogega asked the businessman to fence the dam or risk closure of his Hotel and farming business in the region.

“I had to heed to calls from the residents following reports that three people almost drowned at different times since we started experiencing rains. The owner is much aware and we hope he will respond quickly or risk closure of his business,” Ogega said.

He hailed residents for adhering to the rule of law by reporting the matter rather that engaging the businessman over the matter.

“I am pleased with the way they restrained themselves from causing fracas because I have information that some of them wanted to use force. It’s always in order to respect someone’s property and do the necessary by reporting whenever such an issue of public interest arises,” he added.

He urged Obiri to continue with his social responsibility by allowing dairy farmers to use water from the dam despite the standoff with them.
