The ministries of Agriculture from both the county and national governments have been challenged to research on diseases that have been affecting maize production in Nyamira County.

Addressing residents, majority of them farmers on Friday at Rigoma during the World Food Day celebrations, Gesima ward MCA Kennedy Nyameino challenged the ministries to research on the diseases and come up with a solution to avert losses incurred by farmers.

According to Nyameino, a solution is needed urgently since most farmers depend on the maize crop which is the staple crop in the county.

“Most of us depend on maize as our main food crop but unfortunately for some years we have not harvested. We request a research which can enable us to know want went wrong,” said Nyameino.

In addition he told the experts in technology to educate farmers on how to use modern technology and boost production.

“Let us be educated by experts on how we can do farming in a modern way so that we can increase the production.”

In past years farmers have been affected by some diseases that affect their food crop which lead to lack of food and the cost of living was a challenge.
