A cancer screening exercise for women in Kiambu will start on Monday after its launch by the county Health department on Sunday.
According to the organisers, the four-day exercise targets over 3,000 women all over Kiambu County.
It will take place at the PCEA Kikuyu Hospital, Kiambu Level Five Hospital, Kiambaa hospital, Tigoni hospital and Thika Level Five hospital from Monday to Thursday next week.
Philip Wanjohi, a Palliative care nurse who is coordinating the exercise speaking at PCEA Kikuyu Hospital on Friday said that women between 14 and 45 will be screened for cervical and breast cancer.
Wanjohi also confirmed that no fees will be charged for women who turn up at the hospitals for the screening exercise.
"Women suspected to have cancer will be examined by an oncologist. The exercise will be for free hence should be attended by many as it is a golden opportunity for women especially those in rural parts of Kiambu" he said.
"We urge women to attend the exercise. Mothers should also come along with their daughters who are in their reproductive age for screening," he added.
He also assured those who will be diagnosed with the condition that they will be offered to the necessary care and advice.
