Kisumu residents have been advised to carry their national identification cards with them to avoid confrontations with police officers patrolling the area at night.
Kisumu County Police Commandant Joseph Limo noted that many residents have the tendency of walking without their ID cards especially at night.
Speaking to the press at his Kisumu Central Police Headquarters office on Thursday, Limo confirmed that a total of 184 people have been arrested this week alone for lacking the important document.
"It is very risky to walk at night without these important documents as the first thing we will suspect you to be an illegal immigrant or a criminal disguising himself," he said.
The police boss warned that action would be taken against any resident found to be walking at late hours without ID cards would be arrested on the spot for further questioning.
"This is a move to boost the security in Kisumu and also do away with illegal immigrants who engage in criminal activities," he added.
