Tetu Location Chief John Njaramba has warned students from the area that they will face the law if they do not desist from abusing drugs and other substances.

Njaramba said drugs abuse among the students in Subukia Sub-County has been a major hindrance to studies hence students are not benefiting from their education.

Speaking on Friday to a group of pupils and students at Subukia Day Secondary School, the chief said the recent incident of students being caught with bhang and engaging in illicit behaviour in a bus was astonishing and should serve as a wakeup call to all.

“In Tetu area, there are young people who died and others have gone insane after smoking bhang for a long time. Others are in prison. I urge you not to engage in abuse of drugs and taking alcohol. If you are doing it, stop immediately before you face the full arm of the law,” Njaramba said.

He added that the issue of drugs has contributed to students’ unrest in schools and called upon the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) to intensify its campaigns in institutions of learning.

At the same time, he called upon the parents to be close to their children so that they can know or detect behaviour change among them.

The chief urged the students to put more effort in their studies and plan their time in order to achieve their set goals.
