Children from Kiabonyoru children’s home in Nyamira County have a reason to smile after a group of well-wisher donated items worth thousands of shillings.

Led by Mrs Catherine Jones, the well-wishers donated food stuffs, clothing and books that will be used by the over 100 children in the centre that was recently launched by Mrs Clare Omanga.

Speaking on Tuesday at the centre, Mrs Jones urged the county government of Nyamira to include the less fortunate and the vulnerable in its budgets in a bid to help centres run their day to day activities.

“It is always good to help humanity and that is why we have come here today. There are many such centres in Nyamira and it will be difficult for proprietors to depend on aid from well-wishers. The county government should consider factoring the issue in its annual budget,” she said.

Her sentiments were supported by nominated MCA Naomi Bosibori who said she would present the proposal to the Budget Committee for considerations.

“Helping the children centres is fundamental since this is where we have some of the bright children. It is difficult to run such centres and I will be tabling a proposal to have our assembly set aside some money in every financial year to help the homes to maintain taking care of these children,” said Bosibori.

During the visit, the well-wishers promised to employ teachers who will be required to take the children through tuition in a bid to improve their performances in various schools.
