Cinema cafes operating in Kiambu County risk closure due to not complying with an order banning them from allowing school children into their premises.
Speaking in his office on Friday, Kiambu Sub-County education officer Harrison Muriuki said the video shows were diverting students’ attention from school hence undermining education in the area.
He also said operators of some of the cinema cafes present X-rated movies that expose children to sex and violence.
“Such adult content is partly to blame for the rampant promiscuity among our children as they tend to practice what they watch in those cinema cafes,” he said.
At the same time, the officer stressed the importance of upholding positive cultural values and advised parents in the area not to shy away from offering sex education to their children in a bid to avert cases of immorality among the youth.
He appealed to the area residents to take education seriously as it is instrumental to personal and community growth and development.
The education officer further underscored the need to equip local schools so that they can offer quality education to enable the county to compete favorably with other regions.
