A local leader has accused Governor Kinuthia Mbugua of prioritising external factors at the expense of internal ones which he says poses a direct impact on the day-to-day livelihoods of the people.
While on a site tour at the on-going construction of a flyover in Mau Summit along the Nakuru-Kisumu highway, area MCA Joseph Ngware noted that such projects should start at a local level to make the people also feel appreciated and their needs catered for.
He noted that as much as everybody else could be happy on the development progress along the major highway, it was immaterial to a local farmer being forced to negotiate poor roads before reaching the highway to ensure the products reach the market on time.
“The white man said ‘dance a yard before you dance abroad’ why concentrate on the exterior while the interior if languishing in terms of development,” he wondered.
According to the MCA, it beats logic to invest on the flyover alone at the expense of other feeder roads leading to the main highway.
“In my view, development must start at the grassroot level so as even that old man who might not benefit directly tastes the fruits of such projects. It is cheaper to repair a rough road than engage in such projects though the end product is almost the same,” he explained.
He further revealed that plans were underway to ensure some roads were re-carpeted in the next budget allocation so as to ease the movement of goods and services to the market.
“A majority of products available at our main market emanate from the villages thus to facilitate this, we must ensure a well maintained road channel, I am liaising with the Rural Roads Authority to ensure this is done,” he explained.
The multi-million fly over is expected to be officially inaugurated by the governor upon completion and is aimed at easing congestion on the ever busy highway.
