Diocese of Eldoret Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Bishop Christopher Ruto has urged the national and the county governments to address the grievances being raised by doctors and nurses countrywide.

Speaking to journalists at St Andrews Church in Eldoret on Thursday, the Bishop said that doctors and nurses strikes being experienced in some counties will cripple the health sector if not addressed urgently.

The bishop said that the government has the responsibility to intervene in the strikes and provide the right direction.

He said that the health sector is very sensitive adding that lives will continue to be lost if the government does not listen to the nurses and doctors concerns.

“Both the national and the county governments should dialogue and address the concerns that have been raised by doctors and nurses,” he said.

Bishop Ruto added that Kenyans in affected counties are suffering and that denying health services is infringing on their rights.

The Eldoret ACK Bishop on the other hand urged doctors and nurses representative to dialogue with the government on their issues adding that dialogue is the best way of find solutions to problems.

Nurses and doctors in some counties have gone on strike accusing the government of delaying their salaries and promotions.

In Uasin Gishu County a strike that was slated to start next week was cancelled on Wednesday after nurses reached an agreement with the county government.

The nurses had threatened to strike accusing the government of delaying their June and July salaries and also failing to effect their promotions.
