Community policing has contributed to improvement of security in Mavoko Sub-County,  Athi River Deputy County Commissioner, Kodeck Makori has said.

Makori noted that the concept had been embraced by both leaders and residents.

Makori who addressed the press in his office on Wednesday mentioned Syokimau, Athi River Town, Mlolongo and Kinanie areas as some of the places where insecurity had been contained after adopting the initiative.

He said that members of the public should know that the commonly known "Nyumba Kumi" among the locals from the region is community policing.

Makori said that the concept is to enable members of the public know their neighbours and report to security agents any strange or suspicious characters whom they are not comfortable.

He said that members of community policing from Mavoko should not collect any money either from members of the public or amongst themselves because that is against objectives and policies of why the government initiated it.

Makori said members of the public should voluntarily offer information to security agents asserting that those who hide information to police or provincial administrators risk becoming suspects themselves.
