The Board of Management of Nyamonya Farmers Co-operative society, in Sameta sub-County has been challenged to ensure they circulate copies of the budget proposals to the members prior to holding annual general meetings.
This will ensure members ventilate and interrogate the budget proposals involving their co-operative society.
Bobasi sub-County Deputy commissioner of co-operative, state department of co-operatives development, Samuel Matonda has challenged the boards on co-operative societies in the area to ensure they engage their members in the budget proposals to avert suspicion over the manner the proposals are prepared and presented.
Speaking at Nyamonya F.C.S headquarters, during the Sopciety's Annual General Meeting, Matonda called for transparency and membership participation in key decision making processes involving their co-operative societies.
"I am challenging all management boards of co-operative societies within my area of jurisdiction, to ensure members are consulted and involved in developing and presentation of budget proposals involving their co-operative societies to avoid wrangles in the running of co-operative societies' affairs," stated Matonda.
Matonda said, where co-operative society members raise questions on issues affecting them and the running of their co-operative society, they should be given opportunity to be heard since co-operatives are member owned and members should be allowed to contribute during key deliberations on the running and management of their societies.
