Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has been urged to drop impeachment motion against President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The impeachment motion was filed by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairman John Mbadi who accused President Kenyatta of violating court orders in contravention with the constitution regarding the teachers’ pay as directed by Industrial Court.
Speaking at Nyamage village on Thursday during a funeral ceremony, former Mwembe Councilor John Samuel Mrefu said the country was tired of persistent politicking and urged his Cord side to concentrate on pushing the government to deliver through various legislation in parliament.
“I don’t think this is the right time to bring impeachment motion against the President. I am in ODM and strongly disagree with my party’s position. It will be prudent if our MPs come up with legislation that can compel the government to improve on certain areas,” he said.
Mr Mrefu, also a former ODM chairman in Kisii Central urged the government to consider engaging the opposition in dialogue on various pressing issues in the country as a way of allowing opposition to articulate its issues.
“I know the so called tyranny of numbers but sometimes government should for once engage in dialogue with the opposition over the pressing issues. This can stop the persistent politicking and may be reduce tension that may follow the motion of impeachment on either political divide,” he said.
