The chairman of the Water Services Trust Fund (WSTF) Musikari Kombo has urged counties to invest more on the provision of water.
Speaking on Friday at the Uasin Gishu county government headquarters, Kombo said that the fund is giving out loans to county governments for water projects.
"At the moment we have over Sh10 billion to be given to county governments to enhance water projects,” he said.
He said that a county government is supposed to only pay for the twenty percent of the total amount while the rest will be fully paid by the national government.
He revealed that Tharaka Nithi, Kwale, Embu, kakamega, Nandi and Turkana counties have already signed a memorandum with WSTF.
Kombo says the fund is aimed at ensuring that Kenyans easily access clean water from the convenience of their homes.
“Since water is a devolved function we will work with counties to help us in the oversight of the projects," he said.
He said Uasin Gishu County has a significant shortage of water and more access is needed to improve the quality of life of residents.
