Nakuru County will provide two modern boats to fishermen at Lake Naivasha to facilitate their fishing activities, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said.

Speaking at Karagita in Naivasha on Tuesday where the search of the body of a fisherman who drowned two days ago is ongoing, Kinuthia said that the construction of boats is almost complete.

"The manufacturer has almost fixed everything and the boats will be handed over to the fishermen in a few days time," said the county boss.

The governor added that he will also reach out to the county assembly to approve funds to buy more boats.

"We need our fishermen to use modern fishing boats which they can feel safe while in the lake. The deaths that have been occurring have been as a result of using outdated fishing equipment," added the governor.

Mbugua further noted that his government will also provide life jackets to the fishermen.

Lake Naivasha Boats Owners Association Chairman, David Kilo has on many occasions attributed the deaths at the lake to lack of life jackets by most fishermen.
