The Members of the Machakos Contractors and Suppliers have given the county government 7 days to pay up debts amounting close to Sh2 billion.
While addressing the press on Saturday at the Machakos showground, the chairman of the association Barclays Mutinda said that the county government should stop the current contractors until all pending debts for the previous contractors are settled.
According to Mr. Mutinda some of the unpaid work include work on roads, Machakos Level 5 Hospital, market sheds, Machakos People’s Park, and supply of water tanks.
"We kindly ask H.E the Governor Alfred Mutua to stop all the construction work going on and pay workers their money," He said.
Mr. Mutinda issued an ultimatum to the government to pay up the debts within 7 days beyond which the members would convene to decide the next course of action.
Mr. Mutinda also added that the county government had resorted to engage contractors from outside the County something they were not happy about.
