Uasin Gishu County government through the Ministry of Roads has set aside Sh75 million to upgrade its drainage system.

Speaking at the county offices, Roads CeC Gideon Birir said out of the the monies, Sh30 million will be used to tackle the El Nino rains.

"With the assistance from the national government through the ministry, we will use the National Youth Service to clear all the darinages that have been blocked in the Eldoret central business district and its outskirts to ensure smooth flow of water to avoid flooding especially during the heavy rains," he said.

He added that the areas that are mostly targeted are Zion Mall, State Lodge and the CBD which are prone to flooding.

He also added that the ministry of roads will put sign posts to show the most dangerous spots for people to avoid.

He also urged drivers to ensure that they drive carefully during the El Nino period.
