Nyamira government has been urged to consider allocating funds to children homes in the county to avert incidents of children going hungry.

Speaking Wednesday when they visited Nyaramba Children’s Home, youth activists led by Charles Ombego challenged the county assembly to consider including the request in the supplementary budget.

They said the county government had allocated a lot of money to departments among them fishery and mining which were non-existent.

They now want the allocations diverted to social services.

“Many of these homes are facing a lot of difficulties and sponsors are facing myriad of challenges. We want the assembly to include social services in the supplementary budget or slash the allocations to the mining and fishery departments,” he said.

He said they have submitted a petition to the county assembly Speaker and expressed optimism that MCAs would consider the request without politicising the issue.

“My team has already submitted a petition over the same to the county assembly Speaker’s office. We hope the MCAs will not politicise the issue and I am confident we will see it being implemented,” he added.

His counterpart Jason Ondimu said the 12 registered children’s home in the region only required about Sh2 million monthly for sustainability.
