The county government of Kiambu plans to install metallic waste bins in all the sub-county headquarters to address the littering problem in the county.

The project comes after all the plastic bins were pulled down last year by unknown people, a move that resulted in losses for the county government.

The county executive member of Environment Esther Ndirangu while launching the project in Juja said they plan to install over 300 waste bins in Thika and Juja towns.

The two towns were greatly affected by the destruction of the plastic bins.

Ndirangu said the metallic bins are not prone to destruction like the plastic ones and will thus help in keeping the towns tidy.

She noted that many people have been littering the towns citing the lack of bins, thereby giving the county’s garbage collectors a hard time in discharging their duties.

“We have been receiving complaints that there are no litter bins around town and that is why we decided to buy as many bins as we can. We want residents to make good use of them,” added Ndirangu.

“Our environment officers will not spare anyone who will be found littering around town. You cannot have an excuse because the litterbins are well installed now,” she said.

She was speaking in Juja on Tuesday when she launched the bins in the area.
