The Uasin Gishu County governnment is set to spend Sh4 million in a vaccination campaign against Rift Valley fever.
County Chief Executive for Agriculture Cyril Cheruiyot said the exercise aims at minimising infections ahead of the El Nino rains.
The disease is highly infectious and can be transmitted by infected animals.
He said animals animals including cattle, goats, sheep and domestic birds will be vaccinated to limit transmission.
Mr Cheruiyot said the disease is easily transmitted during rainy seasons.
"We are targeting areas that are prone to Rift Valley fever including Ngenyilel, Turbo and Kesses which are commonly affected by long rains," he said.
"I urge farmers to bring their animals for vaccination because we cannot take chances."
