Uasin Gishu County has launched an initiative aimed at stemming the high teen pregnancy and use of drugs in all schools in the region.

Making the revelations to HiviSasa.com on Monday in her office, the county executive for Environment Mary Njogu said the campaign will be conducted by professionals from the county’s medical department who will educate students on the dangers of using drugs and early pregnancies.

The drive to be conducted on a monthly basis, is free and will start this third term, she added.

“The campaign will bring youths from different secondary schools in the region to educate them on the effects of early pregnancies, the consequences of using drugs. We will also engage people who have been in those situations and how they managed to come out of it. It will be carried out on a monthly basis in various secondary schools,” the CeC said.

She urged schools to cooperate since it will benefit students, adding that cases of early pregnancies and use of drugs will be a thing of the past in the county.
