Commissioner Rose Osoro of Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) has urged the Gusii community members to give girl-child education first priority while providing their children with education opportunities.
She has underscored the importance of educating girls as part of the efforts to close the gender gap between educated women and men in the community, leading to unfair sharing of opportunities between men and women.
Speaking today at Ibacho Secondary School in Masaba South sub-county, during the school's education Day, Osoro who is a former student of the school challenged women professionals from the area to be role models to school girls through mentorship programmes targeting young girls to shape their future academic and professional careers.
"I am challenging successful women professionals from this community to consider visiting their former schools to talk to and encourage school girls to work hard in their education, for them to succeed in their future life careers," stated Osoro.
She also challenged parents from the community to inspire their daughters and motivate them to work hard in their education, to ensure they compete favorably with their male counterparts for various opportunities both in the private and public sector.
