Kisumu County medical lifestyle disease analyst Eve Koyo has challenged the county health practitioners to organise more trainings to educate locals on lifestyle diseases.

Speaking to Journalists on Wednesday at the Kisumu's Migosi dispensary, Analyst Koyo noted that there is need to educate locals on the proper ways to curb lifestyle diseases asking the county government to allocate funds towards the same.

According to Koyo, lifestyle diseases are caused by more civilization that people acquire. She said economic development has also lead to high rate of lifestyle changes stating that diseases like obesity are brought unhealthy eating styles.

She also asked medical practitioners to frequently educate the locals on proper eating habits and proper lifestyle to curb lifestyle diseases like obesity, high blood pressure and stroke amongst others.

“To reduce high rate of lifestyle diseases, one needs to focus on working on their diet and lifestyle that commonly cause lifestyle diseases, tobacco smoking, drug abuse and alcohol intake as well as lack of exercising can increase the risk of acquiring certain diseases which are common to the elderly,” said analyst Koyo.

She further noted that in Western countries, people consume a lot of meat, vegetable oils, dairy products, alcoholic beverages and too much sugary food.

"The dietary changes have led to an increase in medical complication cases such as breast cancer, lung cancer amongst others," added Koyo.

Her counterpart Judith Odindo, who is also a medical practitioner stated that in order to stay away from lifestyle diseases, it is a must to keep a healthy lifestyle, maintain a healthy diet and doing physical exercise often.
