Curio dealers in Nakuru have urged the county government to support their businesses in order to attract more tourists to the region and help spur growth.

Speaking in Nakuru town on Tuesday evening during their monthly meeting, the traders said they play a role in the county’s economy as their wares help woo tourists to the county.

"What we are doing needs government support because we attract tourists to this county who bring in money when they pay for goods and services," said Moses Siepi, the group’s secretary general.

They now want financial support from the county government as well as a reduction in levies in order to improve their businesses.

They complained that their ventures are performing poorly while the county government is doing nothing to help them.

Samuel Chege, a trader said if the county government will not support them, their businesses will collapse as tourists will prefer buying curios from other counties such as Laikipia and Narok as they get support from the governments.
