More than 3,500 applications for identity cards in Gatundu North Sub-County will be processed in the next two months, deputy registrar Alice Watiri has said.
On Wednesday, Watiri said her office received 4,500 applications last month.
Commending the unregistered Kenyans eager to apply for the crucial document, the area deputy registrar revealed that the applications include those of persons not previously registered, change of particulars and replacement.
“During the period under review, the last quarter of the financial year recorded a higher number of applicants after we send an alarm that this area was lagging behind in national identity cards applications,” she said.
The deputy registrar noted that during the last quarter, her office received 2,893 IDs after issuance from the production centre in Nairobi of which 1,067 were new applicants and 1,270 were for change of particulars and replacement.
Watiri noted that many of the applicants were over 18 years at the time of application; something she noted was serious citing that such applications take time to process.
“Many among the applicants who received their identity cards applied for the document late an issue that slows the production process. I my urge all unregistered Kenyans in this area to apply for the crucial document earlier if they don’t want to wait for long,” she added.
