Uasin Gishu deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has urged the National government through the Ministry of Health to devolve funds allocated to it saying it’s a function of county governments.

Speaking during the World Mental Health Day on Friday, Chemno said it’s saddening that the Health ministry is still being given a lot of money and yet according to the constitution, the docket and funds must be devolved to help improve health services in counties.

"The central government is only managing two referrals hospitals; Kenyatta National Hospital and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. Where do they take the money allocated to the ministry and yet county governments are supposed to manage the sector. The function was devolved, and we urge the national government to increase health funding to counties to bring progress to the sector, "he said.

He revealed that 36 per cent of the county’s budget is channeled to health since it is the most important ministry as it touches all people regardless of their economic status.
